On Friday, on dropped the kids at the bus stop and decided to have a little fun exploring downtown Asheville on my own. I began with a cup of cappuccino at City Bakery and then just strolled, letting myself be drawn to what I loved. I was completely entranced by the selection of whimsical, witty and playful finds at L.O.F.T. (stands for Lost Objects Found Treasures). When I strolled downstairs, I found this sign -- a perfect motto for my day playing hooky!
I actually bought a Halloween "trick" for the kids - the finger puppet below. Since motherhood, I've developed a latent talent for puppeteering. Who knew? My finger or "Fingy," if you will, is my kids' favorite character. I cannot believe I have to wait 2 months to bust this Frankenstein finger puppet out!!
Another of my favorite shops was Nest Organics. Filled with organic treasures for mom and baby, this one is a must for friends who are expecting. But I also adored their back-to-school display of fabulous lunchboxes. They are about the same price as one I just bought at the local grocery shop, but, let's face it, much cooler. If you can't get to Asheville, they have a website www.nestorganics.com.
My last stop of the afternoon was a new favorite clothing store called Virtue. When I walked in, the salesgirl was trying on a beautiful kimono along with a floppy hat. She was Stevie Nicks incarnate. I tried on half the store before settling on the kimono as well. It really is very practical for every occasion, don't you think? Everyone should have one.
